About

ABOUT THE MAKEUP ARTIST

Anna Marie Conde is a professional make-up artist. Her road to accomplish this took a different route.  When she was in Miriam College, her classmates noticed the uniqueness in her make-up - they wanted it too. Upon their request, she did touch-ups and corrective make-ups. As the word about her spread, she was commissioned to do the student models’ make up (25 persons at a time) for their catwalk event. From then on, her popularity grew by word of mouth; students began booking her for various makeup jobs.

Discovering her innate talent, Ms Anna Marie Conde took to heart the mastery of makeup artistry. She devoured voluminous reading materials on the subject and made herself acquainted with style and techniques of other industry icons: Bobbie brown, Max Factor, George Westmore, Kevyn Aucoin, Carmindy, Tim Quinn, Alexis Vogel.  Other contemporary artist: Gucci Westman, Tom Pecheux, Mark Coulier(Iron lady), Francelle Daly. And with countless hours of hands-on training with the cosmetics manager of Dillards (USA), she elevated her signature makeup to the highest degree of perfection. Coupled with her thoroughness and work ethics, she is now one of the most sought after makeup artist.

The Makeup industry is dynamic. Ms Anna constantly updates for latest fashion in makeup. Knowing the importance of continuous education, she periodically embarks on training program for her team to keep their skills honed and more. She employs people engaged in the field, to be of good character, honest, skillful and obliging.

Teeming with ideas and knowledge in the cosmetic field, she always imparts makeup and skin care tips appropriate for her clients’ individuality.

THE GURU

Ms Maria Socorro Conde immigrated to the USA in 1995, landed a job at Dillards Department Store in Jacksonville, Fl. USA, as an assistant manager and eventually ‘manager’ of the cosmetics department, which, according to her, was not an easy feat.
A cosmetics department is similar to what we see in our malls here in manila/Philippines.  Signature booths are set up by industry giants, e.g., Revlon, Chanel, L’Oreal, Clarins, Clinique, Shiseido, Mac, Estee lauder, Elizabeth Arden, Lancôme. Each makeup company employs a consultant who is adept in their own product line. The ‘assistant manager’ is trained by those makeup consultants behind their respective counter in the sea of makeup assortments. Those multi-national cosmetic companies routinely send their experts for a one-on-one, hands-on training session of the (store) department’s assistant manager. They believe that a well-versed assistant Mgr. can effectively help in selling their line. The training is intensive and extensive. That’s how she attained her Mastery of the field. Very informal I suppose, but even an expensive cosmetology school can’t furnish that kind of learning environment. And, that very informal education consiquently catapulted her as Head of cosmetics department.

I know, I can’t say enough about her makeup prowess. I won’t even try. I’m just lucky to have her as my aunt. She immersed me completely with everything she knows. I am amazed by the way she trained me; very thorough, strict, accurate, diligent and patient. I really love her! She said, “That’s how I was taught and I think that’s the best way”.

I learned important lessons on skin type, skin care, skin tones, dos and don'ts in makeup usage and application, type of brush, type of makeup, kinds of powders, mascara, eye liners, lipsticks, quality of products, quality of work, etc. ‘Blending….. Master it!’ one of her most profound instruction that kept reverberating in my ears. She lectured me extensively on different brush handling, sweeping strokes, flowing movement of hands, wrist control, finger technique, feet position, body control, style,  highlighting technique, color rendition and combination, leveling, contouring, contrasting, matching, alteration, alternation, balancing, gradation, direction, harmony, unity and the list is just endless.
I’m deeply indebted to my Aunt Maria. She really is a major force behind my chosen profession. She even enjoined me in one of my field work; just to observe, but ended up doing some of the work, because my client’s friends and family insisted on her, upon learning that she was - The Guru.
I asked her once, how can I repay all the hard work, intensive courses, countless hours and mentoring? She said “My dear, this is my legacy to you, Make me Proud.”
